Volunteer Opportunity for anyone interested in wildlife and fisheries!
April 29th (Saturday) at Lake Dunlap.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife-Inland Fisheries, Corpus Christi Fisheries Management District and staff at GBRA are needing some youth volunteers (ages 11-19) who would like the opportunity to help improve the fish habitat at Lake Dunlap prior to its refilling. We are needing help moving, assembling, and deploying catfish spawning boxes to pre-selected locations along the bank. These spawning boxes are heavy (around 100 pounds assembled), but we will attempt to make them lighter for transfer. We are actively working with GBRA on finding easily accessible locations to drop off the boxes and may need to use some of our boats to transfer supplies and volunteers to certain locations. We need around 50 volunteers, and they will need to dress appropriately (rubber boots or waders), work gloves, and bring your own food/drinks. TPWD will provide spawning boxes, tools, lifejackets and boats, but if you have a shovel, please bring it along. Hopefully, these efforts will not only improve the fishery of Lake Dunlap, but the opportunity to work on a reservoir prior to its filling is rare, so we look forward to hearing from you. Please coordinate any volunteers with Dusty McDonald (TPWD) at dusty.mcdonald@tpwd.texas.gov.
